These Ham and Cheese Pinwheels are an easy, crowd-pleasing appetizer for any occasion. With nutty Swiss cheese, slightly sweet, flaky crescents, and salty ham slices, the combination feels exciting and indulgent while remaining accessible and easy to make. The recipe requires very little prep time, making it a great option for a last-minute addition to your meal or party. Make these nostalgic Ham and Cheese Pinwheels for your next gathering!
Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Dough Sheet or Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls: Using a Crescent Dough Sheet allows you to customize the size of the dough more easily. Original Crescent Rolls do work, but they have seams, which can make them slightly harder to shape into pinwheels. Both taste great in this recipe!
Swiss Cheese: The mild, nutty flavor of Swiss cheese balances nicely with the salt in the ham and the flaky, slightly sweet crescents.
Deli Sliced Ham: The ham is a key part of this recipe. It adds saltiness and bulk to the recipe and achieves that classic ham and cheese flavor that you’re looking for.
Other Ingredients You’ll Need: Melted butter and honey.
Unroll the dough sheet onto a large cutting board and press into a 12x8-inch rectangle. If using crescent rolls, press the seams together.
Top the dough with cheese and ham slices, leaving 1/2-inch border on each of the short ends. Starting on the short edge of the rectangle, roll up tightly and pinch seam together.
With a serrated knife, cut the roll into 8 slices that are approximately 1 inch wide.
Arrange the pinwheels on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray or lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops and sides of the pinwheels with melted butter. Bake for 17 to 20 minutes at 375°F, or until golden brown.
Drizzle the baked pinwheels with honey and serve warm.
Any leftover Ham and Cheese Pinwheels can be stored and reheated in the following ways.
Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
We don’t recommend freezing your Ham and Cheese Pinwheels. Freezing makes the dough dense and soggy when it thaws, and the cheese does not reheat well.
To reheat your leftovers, put them on a baking sheet or piece of aluminum foil. Bake at 325° in a toaster oven for 5 minutes, or in an oven for 10 minutes.

Heat oven to 375°F. Spray large baking sheet with cooking spray, or line with parchment paper.

Try sliced cheddar or pepper Jack in place of Swiss cheese for a different flavor.
