With sweet-tart apples, nutty Swiss, and salty ham, these rolls have all the right flavors in a recipe that’s as fun to make as it is to eat. Using only a few simple ingredients, you can make a crowd-friendly dish that serves as an appetizer, dinner main, or side dish. It’s truly choose your own adventure with these delicious Apple-Glazed Ham and Cheese Rolls! So, roll up your sleeves, roll up your dough, and make something wonderful.
Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls or Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Dough Sheet: These dough options are easy to work with, making them perfect for creating a nice roll. Either product works wonderfully, but if you use crescent rolls, you will need to press and seal the perforations to keep your roll intact.
Swiss Cheese: Swiss is slightly sweet, nutty, and mild, making it the perfect creamy complement to the other flavors in this dish. It helps the center of your roll stay together as well.
Ham: Sliced, cooked ham is nice and salty, which perfectly complements the slightly sweet cheese and the very sweet apple glaze.
Other Ingredients You’ll Need: Apples provide a lovely texture and subtle sweetness to this dish. Honey mustard adds acidity without being overpowering or too sour, and the honey goes well with the apple components of this dish. Butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and apple jelly create an ultra-sweet topping that makes this dish unique while remaining approachable and familiar.
This delicious, comforting dish comes together in just a few easy steps!
Unroll crescent dough. Separate into 4 rectangles and press into a 6-inch square, pressing the dough perforations to seal them (unless using crescent dough sheet).
Spread each square with honey mustard, leaving a 1/4-inch margin around the edges. Top with ham and cheese. Roll up the dough with the ham and cheese inside; press to seal ends and seams.
Place rolls seam side down on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for 16 to 21 minutes or until golden brown.
Melt butter in an 8-inch skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add apple and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender. Add brown sugar and cinnamon and mix well. Stir in jelly and cook for about 2 minutes or until bubbly, stirring occasionally.
Top rolls with apple mixture and serve.
You can enjoy any leftovers for a few days after you make this recipe.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Be sure to store leftovers within 2 hours of finishing preparation.
Freezing these rolls may compromise the texture of the dough. We do not recommend freezing this recipe.
Reheat your leftovers in the microwave on High for about 1 minute, then in 30-second intervals until warmed through (165°F).

Heat oven to 350°F.
If using crescent rolls: Unroll dough; separate into 4 rectangles. Firmly press perforations to seal. Press each to form 6-inch square. If using dough sheet: Unroll dough; cut into 4 rectangles. Press each to form 6-inch square.

Spread each square with honey mustard to within 1/4 inch of edges. Top with ham and cheese. Roll up. Press to seal ends and seams. Place rolls seam side down on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake 16 to 21 minutes or until golden brown.

Meanwhile, melt butter in 8-inch skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add apple; cook about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender. Add brown sugar and cinnamon; mix well. Stir in jelly until melted. Cook about 2 minutes or until bubbly, stirring occasionally.

Serve apple mixture over rolls.

If you are having trouble getting the dough to reach around the filling, try gently stretching out the ends of the dough both vertically and horizontally.
Try switching out the fillings for different flavor options like smoked turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy over the top. You can also try them breakfast-style with scrambled eggs, ham, and sausage gravy over the top. We haven’t tested any of these variations, so note that bake time may need to be adjusted with different fillings.
Put the apple glaze topping in a gravy boat or pitcher for easy at-the-table pouring.
