Are air fryer pigs in a blanket a satisfying snack, an irresistible appetizer, or dinner you can eat with your fingers? They’re all three! Pigs in a blanket are sausages baked in a cozy wrapping of flaky pastry—or sometimes breakfast sausages wrapped in pancakes—and have been loved by families for decades. Ours are made easy and delicious using Pillsbury™ crescent dough, and they’re something everyone can raise their forks to.
Since our original snack-size crescent dog recipe appeared over 25 years ago, our fans can’t get enough, and we’ve listened! We’ve been getting into the kitchen to create even more ways to enjoy crescent-wrapped pigs in a blanket, including this popular air fryer version.
Here are our best tips to create mini pigs in a blanket in the air fryer.
We’ve found that placing parchment paper in the bottom of your air fryer makes clean up a breeze and keeps the dough from sticking to the basket.
Narrow triangles of dough are the perfect size for wrapping the tiny sausages. Use a small knife or a pizza cutter to quickly cut.
Start with the shortest side of the crescent dough triangle, and roll the sausage up toward the point to neatly cover all but the ends of the sausage with dough.
Cook half of the pigs in a blanket at a time, so your air fryer basket isn’t completely full, allowing air to circulate and evenly cook the mini pigs in a blanket. An evenly golden-brown crescent dough color indicates when to turn them over and when they are done.
This versatile, kid-friendly recipe can be used for snacks, an appetizer, or even dinner.
Snack: Enjoy a few mini pigs in a blanket with apple slices and a glass of milk.
Appetizer: Create an easy appetizer spread by serving them with a few dips and simple recipes. We are partial to cream cheese ranch dip or serve along with our veggie pizza.
Dinner: Need a meal on the go? Pair these with grapes, cheese sticks, cut-up carrots, and sliced cucumbers for a supper that’s ready when you are.
For the most tender, flaky crescents, it’s optimal to make these bite-size pigs in a blanket right before you plan to enjoy them. With storage, the crescents pick up moisture from the sausages, which makes them more tough rather than flaky and tender, and reheated crescent dogs tend to be drier.
Wrap cooled leftover pigs in a blanket tightly on a plate, in an airtight container, or resealable food storage bag, and store in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
Place desired number of mini pigs in a blanket on a microwavable plate and cover loosely. Microwave on medium (50%) for 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds or just until heated through.
We do not recommend freezing air fryer pigs in a blanket (baked or unbaked), because the crescent dough texture does not hold up well when frozen.

Cut an 8-inch round of cooking parchment paper. Place in bottom of air fryer basket.
Unroll dough; separate into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 narrow triangles.

Place sausage on shortest side of each triangle. Roll up each, starting at shortest side of triangle and rolling to opposite point; place 12 wrapped sausages point side down on parchment in air fryer basket.

Set air fryer to 325°F; cook 3 to 4 minutes or until crescent tops are light brown. With tongs, turn crescent dogs over; bake an additional 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from air fryer. Repeat with remaining 12 wrapped sausages. Serve warm.

To save time, prep 12 pigs in a blanket, and place in the air fryer. While they are cooking, prep the remaining 12.
Making the pigs in a blanket in two batches gives enough space for each one to cook without touching, so each crescent can cook through to golden brown goodness. If you have a smaller air fryer, cook in more batches.
Serve pigs in a blanket with ketchup, horseradish sauce, chili sauce, or mustard for dipping.
